Posted by Stuart Levy (slevy@geom.umn.edu) to sci.math.research, July 4, 1996:

Here are two announcements for postdoctoral fellowships at the Geometry Center; one is open-ended, the other specific to the area of Combinatorial and Algebraic Geometry.

The Geometry Center, University of Minnesota
Postdoctoral Research and Training Fellowships

The Geometry Center is the NSF Science and Technology Research Center for Computation and Visualization of Geometric Structures. The Center has created a unified mathematics computing environment supporting math and computer science research, mathematical visualization, software and tool development, application development, video animation production, and K-16 math education and outreach.

Up to four fellowships will be awarded for the academic year 1996-97 (sic). They are for one year with the possibility of a one-year renewal by mutual agreement. Remuneration will be $40,000/twelve months if there is not other support. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a high level of research accomplishment in the mathematical or computer sciences, to demonstrate an active interest in educational innovation, and to be at home in a computing environment. Postdocs are expected to participate fully in the Center's activities, which encompass research, education, technological development, and outreach.

To apply, please send:

  1. a letter of application specifically addressing why receiving a postdoc at the Geometry Center would benefit both you and the Center,
  2. a vita,
  3. a summary of research accomplishments,
  4. a research plan, including a statement of how you would make use of Center resources,
  5. a summary of computing experience, and
  6. a list of three persons whom you have asked to send letters of recommendation.
Applications from underrepresented groups are specifically encouraged. Application materials should be sent preferably by e-mail to postdoc_apply@geom.umn.edu or by surface mail to
