Subject: Special session in Urbana in March
Date: Sat, 31 Oct 1998 13:45:35 -0600

This brief note is to call your attention to the forthcoming Special Session, "Recent progress in elementary geometry," being planned for the AMS regional meeting at the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois, next March 18-21. The organizers are Professors Clark Kimberling, University of Evansville, and John E. Wetzel, University of Illinois.

By "elementary geometry" we have in mind a potpourri of classical, discrete, combinatorial, enumerative, and computational geometry, including properties of triangles, polygons, polytopes, coverings and fittings, tilings, convexity, geometric inequalities, etc. -- indeed almost any geometric topic that is not especially "differential" in nature could be suitable.

Among the speakers already scheduled are:

The (newly revised) deadlines for the Special Session, announced on page 1281 of the October Notices, are as follows:

The Special Session looks to be stimulating and exciting. We hope you can participate.
